You should post on how Christmas is celebrated in the Netherlands... this post is from Christmas Eve, so it seems that the 24th might be the "big day" there.

In Norway, Christmas eve is the big party. They even open their gifts then. Traditionally, Christmas starts when all of the church bells in the country ring at 5 p.m. -- of course preparations for the big dinner start much earlier in the day.

Christmas day is a day to be with your family. It's usually quiet as people spend time relaxing and enjoying being together (and their new toys ;D).

I'd be interested to know more about how you experienced Christmas abroad.
